The New Forest, Isle of Wight, Dorset, England

Rose Cottage, West Lulworth, Dorset, England

This Southern England holidays guide takes in areas of outstanding natural beauty, such as The New Forest, West Dorset and Cornwall. These areas of England offer idyllic villages (many with B&B's) and some of England's best beaches, with great walks and spectacular England scenery.

Southern Hampshire, The Isle of Wight Holidays

The New Forest is a very popular England holiday destination and dates back a thousand years, when it was established by William The Conqueror as an area for deer hunting. It's an ideal choice for England walking and riding holidays.

The New Forest is a large area of scenic English heath land, populated with beautiful villages like Brockenhurst. It provides grazing for the famous New Forest ponies which roam freely across a wide area.

Taking ferry trip to the Isle of Wight from nearby Lymington is well worth while and the topology is very different from that of the New Forest. The Isle of Wight is a popular England holiday destination, situated just off England's south coast close to Southampton. On the Isle of Wight there are impressive cliffs, beautifully kept villages and excellent beaches. The ferry from Lymington takes you into the England holiday resort Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, which is a good starting point to explore the island. The Needles on the West side of the Isle of Wight are well worth a visit as they are visually spectacular.

West Dorset Beaches and Dorset Coast, England

Find time in your England holiday to visit Dorset and tour the West Dorset coast around Lulworth Cove. This area is spectacular and has some of the best coastal walks along the south west coast of England. There are views as far as Weymouth on a clear day. Click here for a West Dorset map.

Dorset Sightseeing Tips

A popular England holiday destination, Dorset has great scenery and some of southern England's best beaches. Try a walk from Lulworth Cove west along England's 'South West Coast Path' over impressive cliffs, stopping off at St Oswald's Bay, Durdle Door and Bat's Head along the way. It's best to wear good walking shoes as the Dorset coastal paths can be quite strenuous and slippery especially at Swyre Head.

Cheap Dorset B&B Accommodation

There are a few good Dorset B&B's around Lulworth Cove. Some, like Rose Cottage, in West Lulworth, Dorset are a five minute walk to Lulworth Cove. It's a traditional thatched English cottage bed and breakfast B&B establishment. They offer En-suite facilities at low rates and you will remember the views from this Dorset B&B cottage for a long time. Even the village of West Lulworth remains largely unspoilt by tourism, retaining its original charm.

The areas around Lulworth and Weymouth, Dorset are some of the most popular southern England holiday destinations.

Continuing our England holiday tips, the coastline from Bournemouth going west is also well worth exploring. Bournemouth itself has excellent beaches, but can be crowded during the summer.

Malvern Hills, Worcestershire

Malvern Hills, Worcestershire, England

Another suggestion for an England holiday day trip is a visit to the Malvern Hills. Situated in western midlands of England, on the borders of the English counties of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire, lie the picturesque Malvern Hills. At 340m the Malvern Hills offer panoramic views over beautiful rural English countryside. It is said that you can see 60 miles from the Malvern Hills on a clear day.

The nearby town of Malvern, England has upmarket shops and is also famous for it's spring water. Elgar composed much of his classical music in and around Malvern, England, so the town has considerable historical prominence and will add interest to your England holiday. The beautiful area of Ross-on-Wye also lies less than 25 miles away from Malvern, home of the spectacular Forest of Dean, This is unspoilt England at its very best and recommended for people seeking scenic England holiday destinations.

Padstow, North Cornwall, Best Beaches

England's coastal beauty extends westwards through Devon and into Cornwall. Without doubt, North Cornwall is deservedly one of England's top holiday destinations. Located in the far south west part of England, it is home to some of England's best holiday beaches. The picture (right) is the beautiful holiday town of Padstow, Cornwall. Cornwall is about four hours drive away from London, but allow extra time around holiday periods when the roads can get very congested!

  Padstow, North Cornwall

Padstow, Cornwall has a spectacular beach, a pretty harbour and some fine dining restaurants established by Rick Stein, who has established a fine reputation for himself in England for the quality of his cuisine. There are many fine Cornwall Bed and Breakfast (B&B) establishments in and around Padstow and, with the world-renowned Eden Project only a short drive away, there's lots to see and do.

Tintagel Castle, Cornwall, South West England

Cornwall, England is also rich with history. Our next England holiday tip takes you to the legendary birthplace of King Arthur, Tintagel Castle. This is about 10 miles north of Padstow on the coast road. After a bracing half mile walk down a steep decline (no cars allowed), you will come to the historic remains of Tintagel Castle. The Cornish scenery here is very impressive and there are good facilities for visitors.
